Cycled, an Abu Dhabi startup, is tackling plastic pollution by deploying AI-enabled smart bins that incentivize recycling. These innovative bins aim to make recycling more accessible and engaging for communities.
A company called Cycled, supported by startAD – an initiative by New York University Abu Dhabi and Tamkeen promoting early-stage technology projects – is behind the Smart Bin.
Here’s how they work:
Users drop in plastic, metal or glass. The bin then weighs and identifies the material and sends the user a message telling them, based on the weight, the carbon emissions that they have saved by diverting their waste from landfill.
Automated Recycling Process: Cycled’s smart bins automate the entire recycling process. Users can easily deposit recyclable items into these bins, streamlining the recycling experience.
Instant Rewards: To encourage and motivate users, these smart bins incorporate gamification elements. By turning recycling into a fun and interactive activity, the bins engage individuals of all ages, making them more likely to participate in sustainable practices
Imagine receiving rewards or points every time you recycle a plastic bottle or aluminum can!
Community Impact: By deploying these smart bins, Cycled aims to create a positive impact on the environment. Not only do they divert waste from landfills, but they also raise awareness about recycling and encourage responsible disposal of materials.
Corbon Footprint: It helps individuals quantify their Carbon Footprint impact for their effort. sample – “You saved about 5g of CO2 equivalent from being emitted by recycle effort”.
