Gocycle: An Electric Bicycle

Gocycle is the idea that Richard Thorpe based off his day-to-day experiences living in London. Having commuted by using a bicycle for many years, the inventor realized how exciting biking was. However, there were many problems with traditional bikes, like arriving to work hot and sweaty, getting dirty chain grease on the rider’s pants, fixing a messy flat tire, having bicycles stolen, and even being heckled for riding “one of those funny looking fold-up bikes”!

In January 2002, Mr. Thorpe’s total dissatisfaction with traditional bike design made him create the Gocycle in his one bedroom London apartment. This creation is a new class of cycle designed specifically to meet the needs of the modern city dweller. Gocycle is innovative because it is an electric bike; users can pedal a bit if they want or let the battery take over.  Equipped specifically with a lithium battery, this bike has a range of up to 40 miles. The bike ride is emission-free, a pro for environmentalists.

The bike also includes a dashboard display with information on battery life and speed and Pitstop wheels, which are interchangeable, side-mounted front and rear wheels. Interestingly enough, the bike is also portable.
