Airing is designed to be the world’s first maskless, hoseless, cordless micro-CPAP device to combat obstructive sleep apnea.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is usually caused by a blockage of the airway in which soft tissue in the rear of the throat collapses during sleep. If OSA is untreated, it has the potential to lead to serious health problems from high blood pressure to cardiovascular disease to memory impairment. Typically, OSA is treated with “Continuous Positive Airway Pressure,” or CPAP.
CPAP machines can alleviate the problem, but the design is such that it causes sleep apnea sufferers to give up on it: 50% of CPAP users stop using it within one year. The masks associated with CPAP get dirty and need to be cleaned constantly. Airing is an attempt to change that, with a novel design that works as efficiently as current CPAP machines but discards the cumbersome, uncomfortable masks.
Airing’s design is a byproduct of several inventions, the main one of which are the micro-blowers which are typically used for heat regulation for chips in computers. These micro-blowers are entirely contained within the Airing device, so there external air hoses are not needed. Power wires are eliminated as each Airing device is battery operated. Users simply need to “plug” the comfortable buds into their nostrils.
Airing is also designed to be used only for one night and is recyclable. As a result, each night you get a clean device with no cleaning needed. The uncomfortable straps and the noisy hum from other CPAP machines are eliminated as well.
In addition, usually CPAP masks have a hard time maintaining a perfect seal onto your face as you move during sleep. The sound of rushing air can wake both you and your partner up. Hoses used by CPAP masks can drag on the bed, leading to sleep disruptions. But Airing creates a tight fit inside your nostrils with no hoses to catch on anything. Snoring is also eliminated.
