Imagine if water tasted like juice—without the calories. The Right Cup, a new product featured on Indiegogo, promises to do just that.
The Right Cup takes the same FDA approved aromatic fruit flavors which beverage companies use in their drink and using proprietary Encapsulated Aroma Release technology, the makers insert them into the Right Cup to create a scented inner lining. During the process, the aroma and flavor become part of the cup itself but the plastic characteristics of the cup aren’t changed.
The cup is designed so that when you drink water, the opening of the cup will be over your nose. Your nose fully picks up the fruit aroma while your tongue flirts with a hint of sweet taste. As a result, your brain believes you’re drinking deliciously flavored water, while in fact you’re drinking natural, healthy water—without all the calories. .
The scented lining starts to dissipate after the packaging is removed and the effect will last around 6 months, though many individuals have found it lasts longer.
Although the effect lasts 6 months, the strength of the flavor actually increases over time. Co-founder and CEO Issac Levi explains: “The brain is tuned to expect things and to compare them with past familiar experiences. So each time you drink from The Right Cup, the brain learns to better understand the taste experience, the result being an increased enhanced flavor experience each time you drink.”
The BPA free cups are set to ship in April 2016 and are intended to curb cravings for flavored drinks and help kids to keep hydrated. As Levi affirmed, “The Right Cup offers a great way to reduce the consumption of sugary beverages which are known to play a key role in obesity and diabetes among children. This is my way to help their daily struggle.” They can choose from a variety of flavors including include lemon, lime, orange, mixed berry and apple, and more will be announced in the future.
