The holiday complex, Poseidon Resort, has been developed. This is no ordinary hotel–it’s located 40 feet under the sea in a lagoon off the shore of a private island in Fiji.
L. Bruce Jones, a submarine inventor, has invented the world’s first undersea resort. It was due to open in 2008 and has an estimated 150,000 potential guests on its waiting list. It has taken 13 years in the making.
The Poseidon Resort comprises of approximately 225 acres and is about a mile long.
Accessible via a lift from the shore of the island, the resort promises guests pure luxury with each suite boasting a large Jacuzzi and wall-to-ceiling windows.
The underwater facilities will include 24 luxury state rooms, a restaurant and bar, library, conference room, wedding chapel, underwater spa, and the ultra-luxury Nautilus Suite with stunning undersea views.
Seventy per cent of the exterior surface of each suite is made from transparent acrylic making the undersea views panoramic and each suite will have underwater lights controllable from an inside switch and an external fish feeder promising amazing views of the multi-colored marine life.
The resort claims to be perfect destination for elite and boasts of its breathtaking views of the nearby corals and vibrant sealife from the windows of the individual suites
On shore, the resort will have a reception area, restaurant and lounge, swimming pool, luxury spa and hydrotherapy centre, gift shop and tennis courts as well as a nine-hole golf course and a marina.
There will be a private plane to fly guests to and from Nadi International Airport on the main island of Viti Levu.
The resort is built on rigid safety requirements with high levels of structural integrity, large safety factors and fully redundant fail-safe systems.
Each room is completely isolated from the central hall and other rooms with a double pressure proof door system and independent emergency life support systems.
Each of the impressive habitable pods can also be detached and taken to the surface for repairs.
