The Gaze Desk: The Smart Standing Desk

The Gaze Lab has introduced a smart standing desk that is responsive, aimed at improving posture and developing a healthy standing routine over time.

Standing desks at large serve as a healthier way of working. This desk is personalized to a user’s unique physique. A user puts in their height and weight into a mobile app and the GAZE DESK alters its position accordingly. It can recognize users as well. Although the desk is designed to find a perfect position for users based on their body profile, users do have the option of manually adjusting the position in two millimeter increments using a jog dial button on the right bottom side of the desk, or with the mobile app controller.

GAZE DESK also seeks to combat text neck, a painful condition affecting 8 out of 10 people between the ages of 18 and 44, which Is caused by putting extra weight on the spine as a result of looking down. The Gaze Desk features an ergonomic dual lift that adjusts the monitor and keyboard separately. Each device is on a different, adjustable tier that can be changed to match your eye level.

The desk also can be put in a mode where you are able to sit, but does try and encourage users to develop a healthy standing routine. A sensor found inside the desk tracks how often a user is standing. If a user does not stand up at least once every two hours, the desk can give a gentle reminder, through, for instance, a smartphone notification, or a cause a direct change, lifting on its own.

To add, the desk tracks your sitting and standing patterns as well as the calories burned through the process. This information is all accessible via the mobile app. Routine goals can be set to college achievements badges and shared with friends.
