Boston Foundation for Architecture Grant Program Deadline in September

Boston Foundation for Architecture grant applications are still available for those who would like funding for innovative, education programs related to architecture and/or the community-development process.  The application is open to virtually anyone, from teachers to community service centers.

Programs targeted towards students and underserved populations are of special interest.

The Foundation looks for programs that increase public awareness and understanding of architecture and may have a “ripple effect” on educators and other organizations.

The grants themselves range in size from $500 to $7,500.

Applications are judged based on five main criteria:

  1.  Responsiveness to funding goals
  2. Target Audience (can be any age group, but should comprise of Massachusetts residents)
  3. Public Impact
  4. Leadership & Capacity-Do the leaders who are executing the project have “appropriate and related experience?”
  5. Program Balance-Does your proposed program have a budget? What is the cost relative to the value of your proposal?

In past years, the Foundation has awarded grants to community programs, training programs, and design-related classroom curriculum ideas and projects.

Over the years, the Boston Foundation for Architecture (BFA) has awarded more than $1,000,000 to support community-based programs, exhibitions and tours, in-school educational programs, conferences, lectures, symposiums, and other community activities.

In 2013, the Boston Foundation for Architecture (BFA) awarded a total of $45,700 in grants to 13 projects throughout Massachusetts. The grants will help underwrite community-based K-12 and other public education programs that focus on elevating public awareness of and participation in the planning, design, and construction of our communities.

Each year the grant application is posted in April, with proposals due in September.

This year, the deadline for the grant application is 5:00 P.M. on September 12, 2014. All applicants are notified of the results by November 1, 2014.
