OCEANIX CITY – sustainable floating community for 10,000 residents

Oceanix designs and builds floating cities for people to live sustainably on the ocean. A modular concept for new floating cities that is a self-sustaining & affordable.

New industry with blue technologies that meet humanity’s shelter, energy, water and food needs without killing marine ecosystems.

Oceanix City, features mid-rise housing around a shared, green public space where agriculture and recreation co-exist.

The design is anchored in the Sustainable Development Goals, channeling flows of energy, water, food and waste to create a blueprint for a modular maritime metropolis. OCEANIX CITY is designed to grow, transform and adapt organically over time, evolving from neighborhoods, to village, to cities with the possibility of scaling.

Modular neighborhoods of 2 hectares create thriving self-sustaining communities of up to 300 residents with mixed-use space for living, working and gathering during day and night time. All built structures in the neighborhood are kept below 7 stories to create a low center of gravity and resist wind.

The goal of the Oceanix city is

Net-Zero Energy – Leverage cheap abundant clean renewable energy from solar and waves.

Fresh Water Autonomy – Fresh water supply via the latest water vapor distillation technology, atmospheric water generators and rain harvesting systems. Closed-loop integrated water reuse systems for zero water waste.

Plant-Based Food – organic produce from high yield, decentralized, soilless systems.

Zero Waste Systems – Closed-loop processing will turn waste to energy, agricultural feedstock and recycled materials.

Shared Mobility – Shared mobility and active modes for an integrated, mixed and productive community with reduced transportation demand.

Habitat Regeneration -Biorock is a unique ocean technology that produces the only marine construction material that grows, heals itself, and becomes stronger with age. Biorock applies safe extremely low voltage direct current trickle charge to steel structures of any size or shape. This completely prevents any rusting or corrosion, and grows solid limestone rock in seawater that is two to three times stronger than ordinary concrete. Biorock reefs have survived the strongest hurricanes. Biorock rapidly regenerates coral reefs, oysters, sea grasses, salt marshes, mangroves, fisheries, and coastal ecosystems where there is no natural recovery. It greatly increases settlement, growth, survival, and resistance to extreme high temperatures and pollution stress for corals and all marine organisms. Coral reefs made of biorock survive severe bleaching events, and rapidly regenerate reefs and fisheries. Floating Biorock reefs filter and clean polluted coastal waters.

In support of UN-Habitat’s New Urban Agenda, OCEANIX CITY is a vision for the world’s first resilient and sustainable floating community for 10,000 residents on 75 hectares.
