Tires That Cannot Go Flat

Biomimicry, the science that imitates nature to create new products, is the field responsible for new, airless, tubeless, tires that cannot go flat.

Resilient Technologies, a Wisconsin based company, is behind this invention. The inspiration for the design of the tire was found in nature: the honeycomb. Instead of using a pressurized air cavity, the tire design relies on a geometric pattern of six-sided cells that are arranged in a matrix like a honeycomb.

The tire has uniform flexibility and can take on tremendous wear and tear and still perform well. It has the same ride, reduced noise levels and heat generation as pressurized tires. The tire could change our driving experiences. It would be useful for farmers and public transport vehicles which need durable tires such as these. The army too would benefit as they would be able to drive their vehicles in hostile conditions and deserts with the knowledge that they would never need to worry about changing a tire.
