Tableau is a work of art. It waters house plants in a wet-dry cycle using zero electricity and makes growing leafy greens, bright florals, and tasty herbs super easy to grow.
Many of us like to have houseplants in our homes, bringing a little of the outside inside. The problem is remembering to water them on a regular basis. Tableau is a new take on an automatic watering system for houseplants that aims to make it easy to avoid either over or under watering the plants.
It is the third and most recent Pickaplant product. Using no electricity, the felt-bottomed tray works by dispensing around half a litre of water from a small tank when needed. Pickaplant is monitored automatically and the process is controlled by a single-valve system that automatically feeds the plants on three separate shelves.
One releases water from a transparent tank that sits on top of the unit, feeding the plants when needed. The system integrates a humidity sensor and actuator, so when a shelf contains a certain amount of water, it blocks the water flow. The water flows from the reservoir into the base, and is then sucked up from below by the roots of the plants via absorbent fabric using capillary action. The bi-valve in the reservoir shuts off water flow when the base is full. Once the plants have used up all the water, the system stays dry for a few days to allow the roots to dry out before the watering cycle automatically begins again.
A valve closes when you lift the reservoir, and opens when you place the reservoir on the base. All you need do is ensure there is water present in the reservoir, and Tableau cleverly does the rest. There is no electricity required, as Tableau’s bi-valve system controls the flow of water based on humidity and pressure.
Herbs, flowers and crops can all be grown using the Tableau system, with enough room to accommodate up to four plants.
