UNIVERSITY OF COPENHAGEN research suggest, food is not just the sum of its nutrients. It is time to rethink nutrition labelling

Posted on May 23, 2017 by

The nutritional value of a food should be evaluated on the basis of the foodstuff as a whole, and not as an effect of the individual nutrients. This is the conclusion of an international expert panel of epidemiologists, physicians, food and nutrition scientists and brought together by the University of Copenhagen and University of Reading. Their conclusion reshapes our understanding of the importance of nutrients and their interaction. Cheese have a lesser effect on blood cholesterol th...

University Of Utah Research Suggests Multivitamins May Not Help Men’s Hearts, Even When Diet Is Poor

Posted on April 13, 2017 by

Millions of American men pop a multivitamin each day, but new research shows the pills won't help the heart -- even if a man's nutrition is lacking. According to background ...

Northeastern University research found that, for some species sex of fish is determined by access to food

Posted on March 31, 2017 by

Imagine if your sex was determined not at birth, but by the amount of food available in the early stages of your life. That if you had access to a wider range of choices you'd increase the chance of becoming one gender over the other. And that if you were well fed and ate when the slightest hunger struck, your likelihood of becoming female would increase. While not a possibility for humans, this does appear to be the case for a particular species of fish that is – and has been – imperiling...

NYU research suggest brain size in primates can be predicted by diet.

Posted on March 28, 2017 by

Brain size in primates is predicted by diet, an analysis by a team of New York University anthropologists indicates. These results call into question “the social brain hypothesis,” which has posited that humans and other primates are big-brained due to factors pertaining to sociality. The findings, which appear in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution, reinforce the notion that both human and non-human primate brain evolution may be driven by differences in feeding rather than in socializa...

Medicinal plants

Posted on February 26, 2017 by

Awareness of medicinal plants usage is a result of the many years of struggles against illnesses due to which man learned to pursue drugs in barks, seeds, fruit bodies, and other parts of the plants.
